Intellistreets® is, at its core, a wireless multimedia system. For any trigger and circumstance, the system can display messages on LED Banners, play pre-recorded audio messages and announcements, raise light levels, display colored embedded warning lights, turn on flood lights, or activate any device in the Intellistreets COP.
Typical scenarios that trigger alerts include vehicular accidents, hazardous road conditions, flooded streets, and sudden loud noises. In more extreme circumstances, Intellistreets can deliver clear audio messages to guide pedestrians and motorists to safety—directing them to exit affected areas, locate fuel, find shelter, or access medical services.
Automated actions can also display real-time messages to motorists, warning them away from freeway entrances and directing traffic to alternate routes, reducing congestion and improving public safety when it matters most.
The Story of Intellistreets®
Illuminating Concepts (IC), the parent company of
Intellistreets®, was founded in 1981 as an architectural lighting design firm by Ron Harwood. Drawing on his unique blend of musical stage production and electrical engineering, Ron and his brilliant, creative team transformed ordinary retail and public spaces into immersive experiences filled with light, sound, and emotion. But everything changed on September 11, 2001. The tragedy struck close to home, touching friends and family in New York City—some lost forever, others forever changed. This heartbreaking event ignited a new sense of purpose within IC: to use their multidisciplinary creative and technical skills to make cities safer and more resilient while bringing year-round enjoyment. Four years later, when Hurricane Katrina devastated New Orleans, that mission deepened. Witnessing the destruction and chaos firsthand, IC committed to building smarter, more responsive urban infrastructure to protect and serve communities at their most vulnerable moments.
