Sternberg Lighting and Intellistreets® were approached by the City of Los Angeles Bureau of Street Lighting to participate in a pilot program supporting the City’s Smart City strategic initiatives. The installation is located along North Hill Street and serves as a real-world testbed for integrated, next-generation streetscape infrastructure. The program was three blocks long.
The pilot features typical LA historic luminaires equipped with Intellistreets® Smart City solutions, mounted on decorative poles. The Intellistreets® Post Top Module delivers a comprehensive suite of capabilities while maintaining a refined, civic-scale aesthetic.
Each module integrates color-changing RGBA notification beacons for visual communication, an omnidirectional speaker for streaming music or broadcasting real-time announcements. The assemblies included pedestrian Wi-Fi gateways, environmental weather stations, and managed GFI receptacles. Together, these technologies support safety, connectivity, and data-driven urban management—advancing the City of Los Angeles’ vision for a more responsive, intelligent public realm.
